Bucket seats – best for $?

March 10th, 2010

I’m building a car from the ground up, and I’m looking for others’
opinions on which (mid/high back) bucket seats are really the best
(comfort, strength, etc) for the buck.

Also, could someone point me to the FAQ for the rec.autos.* heir.?

MUSTANG COBRA, R Model; EXPLORER…

March 10th, 2010

Just read in MOTOR TREND an article on the new Explorer and also an article
on a factory 351 Mustang Cobra R Model.

I like the look of the Explorer, but I think when they redo it completely
it will look even better. Since it is keeping the same chassis the engine
bay still won’t accept a V8 without extensive modifications, which won’t
happen till the Explorer is completely redesigned.

The Cobra "R" looks great, and FORD may be building it, but only about
400 of them, so better get your downpayment in.

The articles are in the Sept. issue of MOTOR TREND>

Car buying service, any good?

March 10th, 2010

I’m going to buy a Honda civic DX coupe soon.  The best price I can get
for it (with AC) is 12,850 in my area.  I’ve heard you can get a pretty
good deal through a car buying service with a nominal fee.  Just wondering
anybody has experience with this kind of service.  Any info and suggestion
will be appreciated.

Jeep questions

March 10th, 2010

Hello;

I noticed the recent postings about Jeeps and thought I’d pose
a couple of questions. Is there a Jeep FAQ? My wife and I were thinking
about getting one.  I would like to know what options your Jeep came
with and which options you wished you would have gotten now that you’ve
owned the Jeep for a while.
I would also be interested to know how hard it would be to take
off and put on the hard top.
One last question is there a Jeep owners club of some form?

                                Thanks for your response

What ever happened to the Ford Pantera?

March 10th, 2010

What ever became of Ford’s Pantera?  I know very little of it, but here are
some guesses and vague memories.  I believe it was an Italian design and
built vehicle (by DeTomasso?) with Ford’s 351 Windsor or Cleveland series
engine.  Were they built in the states or Italy or some combo thereof?  I
thought I saw pictures of it with 3 2bbl carbs or 2 4bbl carbs or did it
have fuel injection?  I know it was a mid-engined 2 seater sold in the early
1970’s.  How much did they cost back then?  Are they of any collector value
now?  Anyone out there ever drive or own one?  Thanks.

Escort Strut Replacements

March 10th, 2010

I’m looking for info on replacing the struts on my ‘93 Escort wagon.  Can
you recommend best vendors to check?  The car as it is is softly sprung
and underdamped to boot.  I would like to replace the stock units with
something stiffer.  Miracles are not expected, but a less ‘floating’ ride
is a goal.  Thank you!

How to determine rim size

March 8th, 2010

I am interested in purchasing a used rim so that I can carry a full-sized
spare tire (as opposed to one of those annoying mini-spares that will get
you home but you can’t really drive on if you’re out on the road).

(Yes, I know that once you put on the spare you should get the flat tire
replaced so that you won’t be without a spare. This is not really the
point.)

What I want to know is this: How do I know what rim size I need? Does it go
by the tire size? My tire size is 155SR13.

Thanks in advance!
