Well, this applies to the Netherlands, but it might give you some idea.
I know the dutch equiv. to the DOT requires that the so called "running lights"
be disabled. (Those little lights on the sides that come on when you turn on
the main lights). Same goes for those obnoxious lights that shine "sideways"
when you turn on the blinker. (Mostly seen on domestic old-folks type cars)
They used to have to disable the 3rd braking light (one in the middle), but
since they’re going to/have introduced those, I’m not sure what the current
status is on that.
They also make you ad little blinker lights on the front fenders. (Saw a 94
firebird at AMS airport, with these real cheesy looking ad on lights, yuck)
That’s all I can think off right now, there may be other requirements, but
I’ve seen quite a few US production cars driving around, both from actual
dealers, which in some case have been made w/ the euro specs here in the US,
or parallel import cars.
