I removed the clearcoat from the wheels of my ’82 Mustang with mild paint
stripper. I then polished the bare wheels with Mothers polish. They looked
like chrome! They do get a little dull after a few weeks, but a quick once
over with Mothers brings back more shine than they had new (I bought new
center caps and they are nowhere near as shiny.) No permanent oxidization.
I thought about clearcoating, but it’s been over a year and that idea is
dead.
