I still have the original factory battery in my 1990 Ford Bronco
and it’s still going strong…

My ’86 Escort’s original battery died at the end of ’93.

Seriously, though, why do Delco batteries last longer? They feel like they’re
gonna run forever. Anybody tried Interstate <snicker>?

Delco batteries are the shittiest batteries made. From my experience,
they are good for 2 or 3 years, then die without any warning.
YMMV, so please spare me the followups of your 1975 Chevy still running
the original Delco battery.

I just replaced the OEM Delco in my ’89 MX-6 (~115k miles!). I was
really surprised to find that the Ford/Mazda plant (Flat Rock, MI)
had installed a GM battery. Naturally, I replaced it with a Delco.

1984 Honda Accord with 104,000 miles and the ORIGINAL battery. Car was
only garaged over the past year…prior to that it survived outside in
Ohio and Michigan winters.

My experience has been that AC Delco are good batteries. You’ll notice
that these are being used a lot by OEM’s.
But still, the Mopar batteries we have had generally last around 4-5 years,
don’t know about Motorcraft.
CR rates batteries, and if I remember the ones that have done pretty good
have been Delco, Sears Diehard, and that Mega-Interstate(never heard of
them?).
Oh, I heard something on the radio today that was funny. I’ve never had a
battery die in the summer, it’s always the winter that you notice them
wearing out.
But Western Auto Parts was advertising a new Delco battery which could
withstand the high heat and tough temperatures of the summer!
Yeah, but what about the winter…

It really does depend upon the vehicle. The alternator and battery
combination makes a considerable difference. For example, I’ve owned 3
different GM cars – each for an average of 5 years. I’ve never had to replace
an alternator and have had to install a new battery only once. On the other
hand, our 86 Mazda 626 uses a Mitsubishi alternator. I’ve had to replace
three alternators and four batteries in 8 years.

Real hot weather (Arizona, New Mexico, Texas…) kills long life batteries
because the internal plates warp. You probably just don’t have high,
prolonged temperatures where you live. As far as winter life, those
batteries that have lots of plates would do well for you…

I’m not sure they *do* last longer "on the average" than other high
quality batteries; but, I had one data point that said *sometimes*
they last a long time. Lacking any reliable data on other brands,
it seemed reasonable to buy another Delco …and the price was OK.
anecdotal evidence isn’t,

Well, I just replaced the OEM Toyota battery in my Corolla after 7 1/2 years
of short trip use. It said 36 month battery on the side too. Hahaha.
Toyota wanted WAY too much for a new one, so I got an 86 month Exide.

We had a Motorcraft last 85 months and another last about 67.

The battery on my 87 escort lasted about 18 months before dying with
no warning whatsoever. I replaced it with a Sears Die Hard that’s still
in the car.
IMHO, owning this Escort was the best ad for a Japanese car I’ve ever seen.

I just had to replace the original battery in my ’93 mazda rx7. It lasted all
of 1.5 years. A total piece of garbage. Put a die-hard in and it now starts
much faster than it did even when new.

I had an ’84 Celica and had to replace the original battery about a year later.
And those power antennas, they are scheduled to die on the car’s 3rd
